Isle of Colonsay Estate Holiday Cottages is the largest single provider of accommodation on Colonsay. We offer self-catering accommodation in over 20 traditional houses or cottages on Colonsay and in a number of Apartments at Colonsay House itself.
The locations of the properties are marked on the map below - most of the properties have spectacular views. Click on the number on the map to read a description of the accommodation.
ALL PROPERTIES have electric heating throughout and fully equipped kitchens with electric hob and oven, microwave and fridge/freezer. Dishwashers, washing machines and driers are specified in the property description. The Colonsay House Apartments have access to washing machines and driers in a separate laundry next to the House.

4 Machrins (Sleeps 12) *** see Pictures
This large traditional farmhouse has beautiful views towards Machrins Bay. It has a large established garden. The house is decorated and furnished to a high standard. On the ground floor there is a sitting room with an open fire, dining room, kitchen with a Rayburn (also boosts the water), one twin bedroom and a bathroom utility room with a bath and shower. On the first floor there are two double bedrooms, one twin bedroom and two bathrooms. The two attic rooms on the second floor have twin beds. The house has a dishwasher, separate freezer, washing machine and drier.

2 Baleromindubh Farmhouse (Sleeps 10) *** See Pictures
This traditional farmhouse is situated at the end of a mile-long rough track and has magnificent views across to the Isle of Jura. It has a large garden.
On the ground floor there is a large kitchen/dining room, a sitting room with an open fire, one double bedroom, one twin bedroom and a shower-room with toilet. There is a large front and back porch. Upstairs there is one double room, two twin bedrooms and a large bathroom with bath and shower.
The house has a dishwasher and a washing machine/drier.

In a spectacular position at the end of a mile-long rough track. This house has commanding sea views towards the isles of Islay and Jura. It overlooks a beautiful, secluded beach,Cable Bay. There is a large sitting room with open fire and a large kitchen/dining area with a solid fuel stove/back boiler. There is a bathroom with a shower and a cloakroom downstairs and one twin bedroom. Upstairs there is a further bathroom, a double bedroom, a twin bed room and a large bedroom with four single beds. This house has a dishwasher, washing machine and drier.

This traditional farmhouse is located down a short track and is tucked into the hillside close to the main settlement on the island near the harbour. It has a large well established garden and lovely views southward to the hills. It is within five minutes walk of Colonsay hotel. On the ground floor there is a kitchen/dining room with a solid fuel stove and back boiler, a sitting room with an open fire, a twin bedroom and a bathroom with shower. Upstairs there is a double bedroom, a twin bedroom, a large bedroom with four single beds and a bathroom. The house has a dishwasher, washing machine and drier.

The Mill House is a beautifully restored old corn mill with the original mill wheel and stream. The house has been furnished to a very high standard. The Mill is located in a protected wooded glen with views to Loch Fada in the distance. The ground floor has a cloakroom, large kitchen/dining room and a spacious and comfortable sitting room with a solid fuel stove and back boiler. There are four bedrooms upstairs, one double, two twins and one with bunk beds. There are also two bathrooms, one with a shower. All bedrooms have views across to Loch Fada and the hills beyond. This house has a dishwasher, washing machine and drier .

In a stunning location at the southern end of the island, this farmhouse is at the end of a half-mile-long rough track. The house is south facing, with commanding views over the sea towards Oransay. The house has a large garden. On the ground floor there is a large kitchen/dining room, a sitting room with an open fire, two twin bedrooms (one with bunks) and a bathroom with a shower. Upstairs there is one double bedroom, two twin bedrooms and a bathroom. The house has a dishwasher, washing machine and drier.

This pretty cottage is located near the pond in the beautiful woodland gardens. It has a sunny and very sheltered garden, which is south facing. On the ground floor there is a sitting room with an open fire, a kitchen/dining room, a double bedroom, bathroom with a shower and a utility room with an extra toilet. Upstairs there are two attic twin bedrooms with dormer windows. This house has a dishwasher, washing machine and drier.

This cottage is larger and more spacious than the other six-person cottages. It enjoys superb views over the Atlantic and benefits from large sliding doors leading from the sitting room to an outside seating area. The cottage is situated at the end of a half-mile rough track. The sitting room has a solid fuel stove whilst the dining/kitchen area has an open fire with back boiler. There is a double bedroom and bathroom with shower downstairs as well as a utility room. A very steep ladder-style staircase leads up to two twin-bedded bedrooms.This house has a washing machine, drier and dishwasher.

5 Port Mhor (Sleeps 6) ***
This cottage is situated close to the road on the west side of the island with fantastic sea views, especially at sunset,over the Atlantic. There is a comfortable sitting room with an open fire and back boiler. There is a kitchen/dining room, double bedroom and bathroom with a shower downstairs as well as a utility room. There is a very steep ladder-style staircase leading up to two twin-bedded bedrooms. This house has a washing machine, drier and dishwasher.

This stone cottage has wonderful views over Loch Fada and is set back about 100m above the road up a short track. The sitting/dining room has an open fire and an adjoining kitchen. This south-facing cottage is in a sunny position on the edge of the Colonsay House woodland gardens and is reached via a short track. It is very secluded with views towards the hills above Loch Fada. There is a stream running through the bottom of the garden which is a favourite spot for ducklings in the spring. The open plan sitting/dining/kitchen area has a solid fuel stove with back boiler and double doors opening onto a terrace. There is one double bedroom, one bedroom with twin beds and a bathroom with shower. All accommodation is on one floor. This cottage has a dishwasher, washing machine and drier.

The house is situated close to the harbour with wonderful views toward Jura and Islay and has its own large garden. There is a spacious sitting room with open fire and back boiler. The dining room has an open fire and adjoins the kitchen. There is one twin-bedded room and a shower room with toilet downstairs. Upstairs, there is a further bathroom, one double bedroom, one twin bedded bedroom and a large bedroom with two single beds and one pair of bunk beds. 20A Glebe Cottage (Sleeps 4) ***
The cottage has spectacular views to Islay and Jura and is set back from the road within walking distance of the harbour. The sitting/dining room has large patio windows facing south and has a solid fuel stove. The kitchen has a gas hob and a washing machine. There is one twin room, one double room and a bathroom with shower room with W.C. This cottage is all on one floor and has a large garden.

The cottage is situated on the west side of the island and has spectacular sea views, especially at sunset. It is adjacent to Port Mhor cottage. The pair are suitable for larger groups or two families. The sitting/dining/kitchen area has a solid fuel stove. There is a double bedroom and bathroom with a shower downstairs. There is a steep staircase leading up to two twin-bedded bedrooms.

18 Uragaig Cottage (Sleeps 6) **
This is one of two cottages that look over spectacular Kiloran Bay. There is a short track leading to the cottages. The sitting/dining room has an open fire with back boiler and French doors with views to the south. There is a fully equipped kitchen, a double bedroom and bathroom with a shower downstairs. A very steep staircase leads up to two twin-bedded bedrooms. This cottage has a dishwasher.

18 Kiloran Cottage (Sleeps 6) **
Adjacent to Uragaig cottage, these two units are ideal for larger groups to take together. There is a short track leading to the cottages. The sitting/dining room has an open fire with back boiler and French doors with views to the south. There is a fully equipped kitchen, double bedroom and bathroom with a shower downstairs. A very steep staircase leads up to two twin-bedded bedrooms. This cottage has a washing machine.

This cottage is in the heart of the rhododendron gardens that surround Colonsay House in a very sheltered situation and is accessed along a short track. There is a large sitting/dining room with a solid fuel stove and back boiler and an adjoining kitchen. There are two twin-bedded bedrooms and one double bedroom. There is a bathroom with a shower. All accommodation is on one floor.

12 School Cottage (Sleeps 6) **
This cottage has views over Loch Fada and is set slightly back from the road. The sitting/dining room has an open fire with back boiler and there is an adjoining kitchen. There is one double bedroom and a bathroom with shower downstairs. There are two twin-bedded attic rooms which are each reached by a very steep ladder-style staircases. One is accessed via the double bedroom. This cottage has a washing machine.

7 Cnoc na Ban (Sleeps 6) **

10 Alister Annie's (Sleeps 4) **
This cottage has views over Loch Fada and is very comfortable for a couple or small family. There is a cosy sitting room with open fire and back boiler. Downstairs there is also a kitchen/dining area and bathroom. The bedrooms are situated upstairs and each is reached by a very steep staircase. There is a double room and a twin-bedded room. This cottage has a washing machine and a drier.

Colonsay House Apartments
A significant part of Colonsay House remains a private home and the garden immediately surrounding the house is retained for the use of the family. There is a picnic area for guests to the rear of the house near the tennis court. There is free access to Colonsay House woodland garden for guests at all times.
Turnigil (Sleeps 4) ***
This top floor apartment has views over the garden and is south-facing with a sunny aspect. There is a sitting room with open fire, a dining/kitchen area, one double bedroom, one twin bedded room and a bathroom. This apartment has a dishwasher, TV and DVD player.
Pig's Paradise (Sleeps 6) **
This first floor apartment looks out over the gardens and benefits from its southerly aspect. There is a large sitting/dining room with an open fire and adjoining kitchen. There is a double bedroom, two twin-bedded bedrooms with brass beds and a bathroom with a shower
Nursery (Sleeps 2) **
This apartment is on the first floor with beautiful views over the gardens. The sitting/dining room has a sunny aspect and has an open fire and adjacent kitchen. The double bedroom has an en suite bathroom. There is a TV and DVD player. Linen and towels are included.
Drumclach (Sleeps 2) **
This apartment is on the top floor with lovely views over the gardens. There is a cosy siiting/dining room with an open fire and an adjacent kitchen. The double bedroom has an en suite bathroom. Linen and towels are included.
Stable (Sleeps 4) **
This first floor apartment has a sitting room with some views over the gardens and an open fire with back boiler, a dining/kitchen area, one double bedroom, one twin-bedded room and a bathroom with shower over the bath.

Bookings and Enquiries
(i) Provisional bookings and enquiries can be made to Rhona Robinson on tel 01951 200312 Fax 200353 or email:

(ii) Provisional bookings are confirmed on receipt of a 20% deposit (40% in high and peak seasons) plus an optional premium for holiday cancellation insurance. We strongly recommend that you take out this insurance as the deposit and full rental is non-refundable.
(iii) Bookings will remain firm provided the deposit is received within 14 days.
(iv) The balance due must be received twelve weeks prior to the period booked. After this time, we reserve the right to relet.
(v) Payment should be by cheque made payable to "Colonsay Estate Cottages". Cheques should be sent to Rhona Robinson, The Bookings Office, Colonsay Estate Cottages, Isle of Colonsay, Argyll, PA61 7YP.
(vi) Colonsay Estate Cottages reserves the right to amend confirmed bookings with respect to accommodation and you will be notified of any alterations prior to your arrival. If, due to unforeseen circumstances, it is not possible to find alternative accommodation you will be notified at the earliest opportunity and refunded in full.
(vii) Provisional bookings can be made for 2009/10 for a holding fee of £50 per week in Apartments and Cottages and £80 per week in Large Houses reserved for July, August and Whitsun, and £50 per week in other periods. This booking will remain firm provided we receive the full deposit by 30th November 2008/09. The holding fee is non-refundable if you cancel the booking.
(viii) Colonsay Estate Cottages expects properties to be left clean and tidy on departure and reserves the right to charge a minimum of £30 for properties left uncleaned on departure.
Changeover Days
(i) In the summer period from 27th June to 28th August 2008, changeovers will take place on WEDNESDAYS for the following cottages: Kennels, Port Mhor, Garta Ghoban,School, The Mill and Balerominmhor. Please note that these properties are not available until 5pm on the day of arrival. Changeovers will take place on SUNDAYS for all the Colonsay House Apartments, Glebe, Alister Annie's, Pondside and Garvard. Changeovers will take place on Thursdays in Scalasaig, Toberoran and Sgreadan. Baleromindubh House and Cottage, Avenue, Uragaig, Kiloran Bay, Gortain, Cnoc na Banand Machrins will changeover on FRIDAYS.
(ii) Outside the summer period, changeovers can vary according to the ferry timetable.
Electricity & Coal
(i) Electricity is charged separately by card meter. Electricity cards (£5 per card) should be ordered in advance. (Minimum 2 cards for large houses and 1 for small houses)
(ii) The cost of coal is included in the rental price for all the Colonsay House Apartments only.
(iii) If you are staying in a house or cottage and would like coal/anthracite delivered, it must be ordered at the time of final payment. The fuel is supplied in 20kg bags. Coal costs £6.25 inc VAT per bag. Anthracite costs £7.20 inc VAT per bag (Glebe & Garta Ghoban use anthracite). A minimum of 2 bags must be ordered.
Linen
Towels and linen are NOT provided except where specified but may be hired at the time of booking. The cost per set is £20 inc VAT for single beds and £30 inc VAT for double beds. Please note that most properties have 5ft. double beds, please check this when booking.
Dogs
Dogs are very welcome in our properties. Please do not allow the dogs on the furniture or in the bedrooms. There is a charge of £20 for 1 dog or £30 for 2 dogs. Maximum of 2 dogs per property.
Extra people
Particulars for each cottage clearly state how many people can stay in that unit and these numbers must not be exceeded. It may be possible to accommodate one extra person only on a z-bed in certain properties. This must be discussed with Rhona at the time of booking. There is a charge of £80 inc VAT per week for an extra person.
Camping
Camping in the garden of houses is not permitted if the tents are being used to provide extra accommodation beyond the number the property sleeps.
Transport
If you do not intend to bring a vehicle to the island , we may be able to transport your luggage to you Apartment/Cottages/Houses. There will be a charge of £15 per trip for this service.
