The Byre, No. 8 Glassard

Accommodation has undergone further improvements and refurbishment and offers a great opportunity for a couple or singles to enjoy facilities and trappings normally associated with larger properties, at low occupancy rates. Read on to see why!

Glassard is an historically significant community of Colonsay, a pleasant stroll away from the island shop, post office, brewery, "Pantry", hotel and harbour.

Originally intended as the owners' retirement home, instead the property is now offered for holiday lettings.

The Byre -Jan 14 2009

The Byre has deceptively extensive accommodation. The ground floor comprises Front Entrance Porch, Sun/Dining Room, Sitting Room, Kitchen, Bathroom, Utility/Kitchen Prep., Rear Entrance Porch/Boot Room. The outside dry dunny has been converted into a garden "loo". Off the kitchen, a staircase leads to the open-plan loft Bed/Dressing Room area.

The Sitting Room has satellite TV and an enclosed multi-fuel stove. The Kitchen is equipped with a dishwasher and Rangemaster cooker. The Bathreoom has a washbasin, wc and bath with shower over. The Utility/Prep. has a microwave, washing machine, tumble dryer, fridge and freezer. The Boot Room is an ideal storage area for wellies, wet-weather gear, fishing gear, golf clubs etc. and is equipped with a chest freezer. The loft Bed/Dressing Room has a double bed and 1 single, built-in wardrobe, hanging rails etc. A bed-settee has been added to the Sun Room providing increased sleeping facilities if required.

The conversion work features beech strip flooring, tongue-and-groove wall panelling, handmade teak and pine kitchen worktops, Belfast sinks and exposed stonework. The furnishings are comfortable and in keeping with the conversion work, and the whole has been well decorated throughout. We are confident that The Byre offers all that is generally needed for a wonderful island holiday.

The multi-fuel stove has a backboiler which heats the water and serves two hot-water radiators. In addition, there is an immersion heater and further heating is provided by electric storage heaters. Double-glazing is provided throughout.

The Byre benefits from its southerly aspect, with stunning views across the water to Jura and Islay. The comings and goings at the pier can be watched, whilst keeping an eye out for seals, otters, dolphins, herons and ducks which are all frequent and regular visitors to the Glassard shoreline.

The garden has 2 separate deck areas where picnic tables and chairs are provided. Ample parking space is available and access is by way of a private track.

In conclusion, the Byre offers all that is generally needed for a wonderful, peaceful Hebridean island holiday, as is confirmed by our numerous repeat bookings.

The rental includes taxes, bedlinen and towels (weekly changeover; NOT beach towels) and the cost of electricity throughout the year.

Wednesday, Friday and Sunday are our preferred changeover days during the summer season, although we are flexible depending upon the booking situation.
