This is still the main booking season, so any hard-to-fill gaps or unexpected cancellations will apear later. In the meantime, do consider short-breaks because these are often priced at very attractive rates to fill gaps in longer bookings.

Should you take out insurance?

Do decide whether or not you wish to insure your holiday - it is entirely your own choice, but please remember that your reservation is a contractual arrangement and that you cannot expect your host to bear the loss if (for any reason) you are forced to cancel or are unable to get to Colonsay. Your host will, of course, do everything possible to minimise any such loss but the chances of total success are not great.
