Upstairs there are 2 bedroom: one double (with an extra bed for a child) and one twin, these are accessed by steep ladder style staircases.

Drumclach is a traditional stone built former croft house. It is located on the edge of a working croft, has a spacious walled garden and boasts a wonderful sea view.  Drumclach sleeps six in one double and two twin rooms; has a large newly refurbished kitchen and spacious sitting room, both with a sea view.  The bathroom has an electric shower over the bath and there is also a second toilet/utility room.  The cottage is equipped with television.

Fasgadh »

Self Catering - Sleep 6-8

Fasgadh, pronounced ‘fastgaig’, which means sanctuary in Gaelic, was built in 2006.  It is the first house over the cattle grid in the area called Glassard and is within walking distance of all the island’s amenities such as the pier, shop, brewery, tearoom, village hall and hotel.The house is simply but comfortably furnished and has hardwood floors throughout. Ideally sleepsing 6, there is a sofa bed in the living area for larger parties and a travel cot is available. There is an adult bicycle and a set of golf clubs which guests are welcome to borrow. Gart a' Gobhan cottage is on the west coast of the isle - a small, white rendered cottage with magnificent views of the setting sun.  It is our dream-come-true, a very much loved family home. Downstairs has a large double bedroom, king size bed and views to sea and garden, bathroom with shower-over; separate toilet with washing machine and dryer. Kitchen/dining room is newly refurbished, with handbuilt wooden painted units and butler's sink. Fridge/freezer, cooker, microwave plus large oak table and 6 wooden chairs. We have recently built a restful sitting room with large --shaped sofa and two armchairs. A multi-fuel stove makes the room cosy even on the coldest of nights.  This room has a huge glass wrap-around window giving panoramic views to the sea and sunsets. Creag nan Ubhal is a modern house, on the north west coast of Colonsay, about 4 miles from the ferry terminal at Scalasaig. It has wonderful panoramic views across Uragaig towards the Ross of Mull, the Torran Rocks and Dubh Artach lighthouse. It is an excellent centre for walkers, ornithologists and botanists. Buzzards and harriers are frequently seen above the raised beach in front of the house. A short walk takes you to pebble beaches, with cliffs where kittiwake, gannets and razorbills can be found. Another five minute walk takes you to the magnificent Kiloran Bay, with its unbroken golden sands. Nearby Loch an Sgoltaire and Loch Fada are ideal for trout fishing.

The house has three letting rooms, two twin-bedded en suite rooms, and one double bedded room with a private bathroom. All rooms have views across the sea towards Mull, Iona, and Tiree. Each room has tea/coffee making facilities, colour television with Freeview, hairdryer and radio alarm clock. We also have a large guest lounge with a well stocked library, board games, television and DVDs for the occasional wet day. Free WiFi internet access is available.

There is a choice of continental or full Scottish breakfast which is served in the separate dining room. Packed lunches are available on request. Dogs are very welcome downstairs, but we cannot allow them in the bedrooms.

Dharma Cottage is a modern cottage approximately three miles from the ferry port and is situated near the west coast of Colonsay.

The Cottage has three bright and airy double letting rooms. Two rooms have spacious power showers and the third room has a shower and traditional bath. There is a comfortable and cosy guest lounge with a large selection of books for the guests to browse through, there is also a T.V. with a selection of DVD films to watch - or maybe you would just like to relax and meet the other guests. Tea and coffiee is available at all times in the dining room where breakfast is also served. Continental and full Scottish breakfast is available (please state which, on arrival). If there is any special food requirement, please let me know when booking.

The cottage is in a convenient location for trout-fishing in Loch Fada and is centrally placed to explore the entire west coast including a half-mile walk to the dramatic sea cliffs to witness the largest sea-bird colony in the Southern Hebrides. A comfortable one-mile walk (or bike hire from Archie MacConnell, 01951 200355) would place you at Machrins Bay, the golf course and the trrack which leads you to the remote Ardskenish peninsula.

Built in 1750 as an inn for the local population and the rare visitor, the exterior of The Colonsay hotel in Scotland has remained largely unchanged. Perched on the hillside above the harbour, the hotel has commanding views over the sea to the neighbouring island of Jura.

Inside, The Colonsay retains much of its original charm and is relaxed and comfortable. With open fires, painted floorboards and deep sofas in the bar, log room, library or restaurant, there is always a perfect spot to relax in. The restaurant is more gastro-pub than formal dining and uses local produce wherever possible.

Backpacker's Lodge »

Hostels - Sleeps 16 Max

The Lodge is located in a peaceful spot in the centre of the island with commanding views towards Loch Fada. It is quiet and peaceful with no other houses close by. The pub, shop and pier are 2 km away. The Lodge is very well equipped and has a large garden with lawns and shrubs and outdoor furniture.

The Lodge consists of a Victorian former gamekeeper's house and two traditional stone bothies adjacent to the house. The bothies are particularly rustic with exposed stone walls on the inside. The house is newly refurbished and is extremely comfortable.

Sleeping a maximum of 16 people in two separate buildings, for those on a budget, the Lodge is a peaceful and comfortable base from which to explore the island.
