Accommodation on Colonsay
Please note that many properties are open all year round

There is a wide range of holiday accommodation available on Colonsay including self-catering accomodation, also the hotel, a guesthouse, bed and breakfast accommodation and a self-catering hostel for backpackers, all of which are listed here. All accommodation is described in detail via one or other of the two drop-down menus above, and all availability is listed on separate menus (self-catering availability and serviced availability). This makes it very easy to see what is available to suit your dates, and the details are kept completely up-to-date. Our improved air and ferry service has encouraged us to add a special listing, Short-breaks Availability

Intending visitors should be aware that much of the accommodation on Colonsay is booked well in advance, particularly in the summer months. To avoid disappointment it would be wise to book well ahead, but the availability charts will help with last-minute decisions and we even have a Special Offers page where late cancellations and other bargains may be found.

Much of the accommodation on Colonsay has been approved by the Scottish Tourist Board (now called VisitScotland). An explanation of their rating system is provided on their own website.

Wild camping
Camping is permitted in Colonsay and Oransay in full accordance with the provisions of the Land Reform (Scotland) Act 2003, although it is restricted to areas where access rights are exercisable and should be done responsibly. The Scottish Outdoor Access Code suggests that responsible camping is wild camping, and wording in that Code relating to wild camping is as follows:
"Access rights extend to wild camping. This type of camping is lightweight, done in small numbers and only for two or three nights in any one place. You can camp in this way wherever access rights apply but help avoid causing problem for local people and land managers by not camping in enclosed fields of crops or farm animals and keeping well away from buildings, roads or historic structures. If you wish to camp close to a house or building, seek the owner's permission. Leave no trace by taking away all your litter. Remove all traces of your tent pitch and of any open fire (follow the guidance for lighting fires)." Cause no pollution.

Caravans, Motor-homes etc.
Because the island is so small, touring caravans, trailers and motor-homes are not permitted except by prior arrangement. Further details at: Camping in Colonsay
The Backpackers' Lodge provides one possible alternative for potential motor-home users or caravanners. There are a number of sheltered anchorages for private boats in settled weather.
